Useful Items

Hello Everyone! And by everyone I mean my one follower! ('Sup God Dreaming!)

From time to time I come across items that are useful or unusual or unusually useful! It's can be hard to find things that really stand out and let you know, without a doubt, that they will improve you life. Or something.

Anyway, here are a few recent ones:

elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader
Yes, you are seeing that correctly. That is a micro SD card going in and the whole thing is about as big as your thumbnail! (because thumb drives are sooo last millenium!)

Not only is it conveniently small so you can take it anywhere, it's conveniently TINY so you can LOSE it anywhere! Must have been a big selling point with the manufacturer!

Sells for around $10.00 USD which makes it affordable even if you DO lose a couple!

Mini Compact Size Ultra Bright 9V LED Flashlight
Once again, we're talking minimalist functionality. This is an awesome flashlight that just snaps onto the top of a 9v battery and is surprisingly bright whether on low (2 bulb) or high (6 bulbs).

This one is also right around $10.00 USD and makes a great addition to camping gear.

Best part about it is that the 9v battery has an alternate use as a firestarting tool in conjunction with fine steel wool!
(9v + steel wool = magic fire)

Surefire EP4 Sonic Defender Ear Protection
Not all earplugs are created equal. There are quite a few different types for many applications. If you need protection from intermittent loud noises (like gunshots) yet still need to hear softer sounds (speaking voices) but don't want to shell out big bucks for the battery powered ear muffs, THESE are for you!

They don't need batteries, fit well, and do a pretty good job! And they are only $15.00 USD so even if they aren't to your liking, at least you didn't have to get that second mortgage to buy them!

10mW Blue/Violet Laser Pointer
Laser Pointers. Remember when the basic red ones were like $500.00 You know, back when you had to have a pocket full of quarters to play video games or you had your Atari at home. Then again, maybe you don't!

Laser pointers started coming down in price and then, BOOM! NEW COLOR!
Green was all the rage and cost about $500.00, but it too came down with time.

Next up was the blue/violet lasers! Up there in the 402nm range, they can activate glow in the dark stuff like none other! But, again, they cost around $500.00 initially so no sane person could afford them. Until now!

They are also only about $10.00 USD plus shipping. Actually, you can get any one of those colors for that price now!

The war is over!

It's official. Last night upon arriving home from work there was not a single living ant to be found.
In a way I was a little disappointed. I thought that there would be at least one or two stragglers for me to crush as a final act to cap off my victory.
Oh, well. The main thing is that those little bastards are GONE!

The war has begun

I feel that I am a gracious host. I will try to tend to your comfort for as long as you are in my home.
That is, if you are invited.
Intruders beware for I will attack you mercilessly!
Especially if you look like this:

So, to back it up a bit, I came home from work last night to a million invaders marching from my back door, down the hallway, around the kitchen and to the bag of soda cans I was putting off taking outside. Needless to say, I took the damn bag outside!
Thank God for Amdro Fire Ant Bait.

I put a pile of granules near where they were coming inside and in a matter of minutes the pile was covered in a blanket of ants. There were so many that I had to put down a few more piles! After all, I didn't want to deprive any of them of their last meal!

Fast forward to this morning. There was only about a tenth as many ants and many ant corpses littered the battlefield. The live ones weren't moving too quickly either.
I would say that THIS war has a clear cut winner. I will be confirming this tonight when I begin exterminating any remaining survivors.
Once again, THANK YOU AMDRO!!!!

Things People Do

The Internet. It was once only accessible by those who could afford the expensive modem costs. Now it's the place where EVERYTHING gets shared.
One shining example of that is YouTube. There are videos about pretty much anything you can imagine. There are even videos of yours truly crushing cans with ONE HAND!
That's right.
Aluminum fears me.
Okay, that was kinda silly. Only aluminum CANS truly fear me!

Tried by me, read by you

This is the first installment of an ongoing series of reviews of products I've tried or places I've been. I tend to try out unusual stuff and here is as good a place as any to share that!

Miracle Fruit Tablets

These. Things. Are. Amazing. I kid you not. I wasn't too sure about these, but then I tried them. THEY REALLY WORK. I tried a slice of lime and it was as sweet as eating a slice of an orange! Lemons, too! However, the best one was the strawberries. No doubt. They taste absolutely divine!
The tablets were only $1.70 each after shipping. Not bad to experience a miracle!
Comment with your own experiences, if you try them yourself! (he says to his one follower!)

Did you REALLY think that was a good idea?

Sometimes you hear about people doing things that just make you shake your head and wonder what the hell they were thinking. One place you can find such stories on a regular basis is News of the Weird. Here's one such gem you can find there:
Firefighters in Gilbert, Ariz., rescued Eugene Gimzelberg, 32, in March after he had climbed down a 40-foot sewer hole -- naked. Gimzelberg said he had smoked PCP and marijuana and consumed hallucinogenic mushrooms. He was hospitalized in critical condition. [Arizona Republic, 3-3-2011]

Seriously?!? Let's see now, smoked PCP, which is crazy by itself, ate some shrooms, and then smoked some pot?!?!? And with that combination he really thought that he WOULDN'T end up in bottom of a 40 foot sewer hole??? How in the hell did he live to be 32?

Good Reading Material

My good friend, Kevin, sent me a book called Kybalion. It is a truly amazing book with wonderful insights. It may be difficult to decipher at times but well worth it.

My vote, in case the trend spreads...

Recently, I heard that there is a trend speading in China. Apparently grown men are WILLINGLY paying money for/using in public...wait for it...PURSES.
REALLY? As if the boys of the world don't have enough identity problems without THIS.
Well, just in case it becomes a mandatory status symbol, here is my vote.

...And rainbows for all...

Back after a hiatus

Sorry to be out for so long! (my apologies to my one subscriber!)
It was in Feb '10 that I lost my girlfriend to cancer. As tough as it was to help her fight cancer, fighting depression was tougher. I've had a lot of time to think about what IS important vs what we THINK is important. The main revelation I had? NEVER let an opportunity pass you by to let the ones you care about KNOW you care. After all, you may never get that chance again!

On a brighter note, I found a VERY interesting blog calledThe Sneeze. In it, Steve (he's the guy who runs it) posts about funny Christmas gifts, things you shouldn't eat, and other obscure things!
Great site for avoiding boredom!
